  Premature fruit and flower drop, followed by a bronze-to-reddish discoloration of the oldest fronds that progresses upward; the spear leaf collapses and the bud dies, killing the palm within months.

  General decline and wilting of the older, lower fronds, followed by a shelf-like, reddish-brown and white conk forming on the lower trunk; internal trunk tissue rots and softens, and the palm eventually snaps or collapses.

  Wilting and collapse of the crown, with fronds that pull loose easily; larvae tunnel through the bud and upper trunk, and a foul odour with chewed fibre may be present. Attacks fall mostly on transplanted, wounded or otherwise stressed palms.
