Diseases & pests on this plant
- Mock-orange powdery mildewErysiphe penicillata
A dry, white-to-greyish powdery bloom develops on the upper (and later lower) surfaces of the leaves, often starting as discrete circular patches that merge to coat whole leaves and young green shoots. The coating wipes off with a finger, leaving the tissue beneath green at first; heavily affected young leaves become puckered, cup downward, yellow and may drop early. Flower buds and petals can be dusted white, opening distorted or failing to open. Late in the season tiny pinhead-sized fruiting bodies (chasmothecia) appear in the mat, ageing from yellow-brown to black, mainly on the leaf underside.
- black bean aphidAphis fabae
Dense black colonies on shoot tips + flower stems + young pods, sticky honeydew + sooty mould on lower leaves, stunted + distorted shoot tips, flower + pod abortion in heavy infestations, virus transmission causing leaf roll + yellowing later in season.
- grey mould (Botrytis)Botrytis cinerea
Fuzzy grey mould on leaves and stems.
