- Phytophthora root + stem rot of soybeanPhytophthora sojae
Damping-off of seedlings in wet cool soils, brown sunken stem cankers extending upward from soil line on older plants, yellowing + wilting of foliage progressing to whole-plant death, root system rotted + decayed, field patches in wet low spots.
- northern stem canker of soybeanDiaporthe phaseolorum var. caulivora
Reddish-brown lesions at lower nodes on stem, lesions expand upward + downward forming sunken cankers, leaves above canker yellow then die while still attached (flag), whole-plant death in severe attacks, lesions sporulate black fruiting bodies in late season.
- Brown marmorated stink bugHalyomorpha halys
Shield-shaped brown bug ~17 mm with alternating light and dark bands on the antennae and abdomen edge; feeding causes corky, dimpled, cat-faced distortion on tree fruit, cloudy or necrotic spots on peppers and tomatoes, and shrivelled pods on soybean. Adults gather on and enter buildings to overwinter.
Stunted patches of soybean visible from end of row, yellow + premature senescence within patches, small (0.5mm) white-to-yellow lemon-shaped cysts visible on roots when carefully unearthed and washed, severe infestations cause 30-50% yield loss, root system reduced + branched abnormally.
