Diseases & pests on this plant
- Dogwood powdery mildewErysiphe pulchra
A dry, white to greyish powdery or floury coating develops on the upper surface of leaves and on tender new shoots, starting as small isolated patches that merge into a continuous superficial film. The fungal mat wipes off easily with a finger, leaving the leaf tissue beneath largely intact at first. Heavily colonised leaves become chlorotic (yellow), develop reddish-purple blotches and marginal scorch (dead brown leaf edges), and may cup, curl or distort; severe infections cause premature leaf drop. Late in the season tiny dark dot-like fruiting bodies (chasmothecia) can be seen scattered within the white mat on leaves and twigs.
- anthracnoseColletotrichum gloeosporioides
Dark brown to black sunken spots on leaves often with concentric rings, spots expand + coalesce into irregular blotches, severely infected leaves drop, branch dieback in heavy attacks, pink-orange spore masses produced on lesions in moist conditions.
- grey mould (Botrytis)Botrytis cinerea
Fuzzy grey mould on leaves and stems.
