Diseases & pests on this plant

  • Shiny, raised white-to-cream blister-like pustules form on the undersides of leaves (and on stems and seed pods), with pale yellow-green blotches on the upper surface above them; infected shoots and flower heads can swell and distort into twisted, club-shaped growths. The chalky white blisters that burst into powder are the clear sign.

  • clubrootPlasmodiophora brassicae

Stunted plants wilting on hot afternoons despite adequate moisture, swollen distorted root systems with club-like galls, plant pulls out easily revealing massive root deformation.

  • slugs & snailsGastropoda

Irregular holes with smooth (not jagged) edges eaten from leaves, flowers and soft stems, often starting at the margins; whole seedlings can vanish overnight; tender hostas, lettuces and bedding are stripped; the tell-tale sign is a silvery dried slime trail on leaves, soil and pots. Damage is worst at night and in mild, wet weather.
